Jane Oliver

Jane Oliver worked her handsome sampler in the classic English tradition of symmetrical, mirror-image motifs with a house scene below. A neatly worked fence and gate with pine trees frame the house well. Jane’s inscription is surrounded by a sawtooth border flanked by stylized heralding angels. One of the alphabets appears inside an excellent three colored framework. 

Worked in silk on linen, the sampler is in excellent condition with two very tiny holes. It has been conservation mounted and is in a 19th century oak frame.
